The Story Behind the Bluegrass Collection
Bringing Kentucky’s Heritage Into Your Home
Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region is celebrated for its rolling hills, limestone cliffs, historic barns, and iconic horse farms. These landscapes have shaped not only the region's culture and economy but also its aesthetic—a mix of rustic charm, artisan craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.
At Lexington Hearth, the Bluegrass Collection captures this heritage. Each mantel is more than a piece of wood or stone; it is a story of Kentucky’s past, crafted to bring history, character, and natural beauty into your home.
Crafted for Heritage, Beauty, and Safety
The Bluegrass Collection transforms the textures and lines of Kentucky into elegant, functional mantels. Our designers studied historic barns, limestone fences, horse farms, and river landscapes, translating the natural and architectural details into handcrafted mantels.
Every piece highlights authentic details such as:
Knots, splits, and grain patterns in reclaimed wood
Tool marks and weathered textures
Chiseled edges inspired by rolling hills and limestone formations
These details allow homeowners to bring a slice of Kentucky heritage into their living rooms, blending rustic authenticity with modern functionality.

Authentic Kentucky Craftsmanship Meets Modern Fireplace Safety
Before exploring the individual mantels in the Bluegrass Collection, it’s important to understand how these pieces are made — and why they’re as functional as they are beautiful.
Our team begins by creating master molds from carefully selected reclaimed timbers and stones, capturing every detail of the original pieces — from grain lines and cracks to tool marks and natural weathering. Using our proprietary molding compound, these high-relief impressions are reproduced with unmatched accuracy, ensuring each mantel reflects the character and charm of authentic Kentucky materials.
We then cast the mantels using our patented Burncrete™ formulation, a state-of-the-art material that is non-combustible and heat-safe. This allows mantels to be mounted closer to heat sources, giving you more flexibility in styling your fireplace. Thanks to the hollow-core design, these mantels are lighter and easier to handle than traditional wood or stone beams, and unlike reclaimed timber, they have no odors — making them practical for everyday living while preserving authentic textures.
Finally, our skilled coloring artists hand-finish each mantel, matching the exact hues, tones, and textures of the original material. The result is a mantel that not only looks and feels like authentic wood or stone but is engineered for modern comfort, safety, and longevity, allowing you to bring a piece of Kentucky’s heritage into your home with confidence.
Exploring the Connection: Each Mantel’s Ties to Kentucky’s Heritage
The Hayloft Beam Mantel
The Hayloft Beam Mantel takes inspiration from the loft beams found in Kentucky’s barns and tobacco structures, where function and form work hand in hand. Its clean lines and lightly weathered texture strike a balance between rustic warmth and contemporary restraint.
Like all mantels in the Bluegrass Collection, the Hayloft is noncombustible, allowing for closer installation to the firebox than wood mantels in many applications. This makes it an excellent choice for homeowners seeking a streamlined beam aesthetic without sacrificing safety or design flexibility—subject to local codes and manufacturer specifications.
The Hayloft Beam Mantel works beautifully in transitional and modern spaces, offering the visual presence of a beam mantel with a refined, understated profile.
