Hitching Post Pale Honey
Before there were endless striped asphalt parking lots and multi-story parking garages, commuters hitched their “ride” to a simple post or rail when they came into town. Homes and businesses across Kentucky had either a hitching post or a hitching rail to tie off your horse to keep it from wandering. Our Hitching Rail mantel pays homage to a simpler time when horse power came with a saddle.
The Hitching Post mantel is modeled directly from three pieces of wood. The top rail has a cross section of 5.5” x 5.5” and is 78.5” long (80lbs). The rail rests on two posts that each measure 5.25” deep x 5.5” wide and 56” tall (54lbs). The posts can be adjusted for lower openings by trimming the posts with a diamond bladed saw. Character details include deep weathered woodgrain, tool marks, insect damage, nail holes, saw marks, checks & splits, and character knots.
The Pale Honey finish is reminiscent of the pale golden color of bourbon after a few years aging in a charred oak barrel. Light brown base color with light honey mid-tones, pale grey shadows, and finished with cream highlights.
